VFB Storage System

A VFB Storage System (VFBSS) is made up of: 

  • Several Vanadium Flow Batteries (VFB),
  • Battery Management System (BMS),
  • Power Conversion System (PCS), and
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

The controls of BMS are done by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). PCS consists of a bi-directional inverter, a transformer, and an integration switch cubicle. It enables two-way transmission between VFB and a power grid and is a key component to connect VFB with a power system. SCADA has a communication interface to enable remote communications, metering, controls and regulations of VFBSS.

  • Facilities with the need to store up off-peak electricity or expand power supply temporarily
